Cronulla MP Mark Speakman this afternoon urged Cronulla Sharks and Sutherland Shire Council to compromise on the club’s development plan ‘‘before each side plays Russian roulette’’.
Mr Speakman, who was away earlier this week when the Department of Planning and Infrastructure recommended the plan be approved, made his appeal in an email to both sides.
‘‘I urge Sutherland Shire Council and the Sharks’ development consortium to negotiate a sensible compromise on the Sharks development before each side plays ‘Russian roulette’ in front of the Planning Assessment Commission,’’ he wrote.
‘‘A sensible compromise is much better for all involved than possible ‘all or nothing’ outcomes.
‘‘I will get involved in any resolution process if the parties think this will help.
‘‘Absent any compromise, I will urge the Planning Assessment Commission to reject the current proposal.’’
Mr Speakman said he believed the department’s report was seriously flawed and failed to address adequately, or at all, many key issues.
