Workers from the Caltex oil refinery at Kurnell today applied pressure to supermarket giant Woolworths to stop the closure of the facility.
More than 100 workers and supporters marched through the City to the retailer’s flagship Town hall store, where they called for it to sell only locally refined fuel service stations it operates with Caltex.
National secretary of the Australian Workers Union, Paul Howes, said if the Kurnell operation closed, NSW would no longer have a refinery, and those in other states would also eventually be shut down, with fuel imported from places like Singapore.
Mr Howes said instead of being known as ‘‘the Australian fresh food people,’’ Woolwoorths would become ‘‘the Singaporean fresh fuel people.
