A GREAT Sutherland Shire motoring matriarch has died.
Alice "Jean" Bargwanna, of Como West, passed away on June 29.
At 92, Mrs Bargwanna was a great-grandmother and well-loved member of a car racing dynasty.
She owned a workshop that launched the racing careers of her sons, Alf and Harry, and grandsons Scott and Jason Bargwanna.
Mrs Bargwanna's granddaughter, Kylie West, said Jean was well known both in motoring circles and at the Cronulla Leagues Club.
"A couple of weeks ago I was talking with nan and asked her what was her greatest achievement in her 92 years," Ms West said. "She simply said her family: 'All of my children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren have accomplished so much in life and I am extremely proud of every single one of them.'
"Nan, it is our promise to continue making you proud of all of us."
Her funeral was at the Woronora Crematorium on July 6.
