MAYBE Channel Ten should meet this Sutherland Shire girl.
Yogalates teacher Lauren Deacon of Cronulla hopes Australians will admire her idea of reality.
Ms Deacon, 25, will swap her warm bed for the cold city streets with friends next month, to support homelessness.
In the past six months she has brought food, water and clothing to people who, by choice or not, live without shelter.
‘‘Last year was my year for helping the environment, this year I wanted to do something for humanity,’’ she said.
‘‘I want to change society’s judgment of homeless people.
‘‘Yes, many have a mental illness and others choose to live on the street, but the hardest part is meeting someone who doesn’t want to be there. It’s heartbreaking.
‘‘They asked me why I was there.
‘‘They were shocked I wasn’t part of a religious association, that I was just there to have a chat.’’
Ms Deacon will buy phone cards so people can call loved ones or organise accommodation through Wesley Mission.
‘‘They also need things to carry their belongings in,’’ she said.
‘‘Hopefully, this will be part of a bigger process to change people’s perceptions.’’
