A JUBILANT Kaarle McCulloch celebrated Australia’s first track medal of the 2012 Olympics in the early hours of this morning.
The Endeavour Sports High graduate combined with Anna Mears to win bronze in the women’s team pursuit.
The duo finished behind Germany and China after beating Ukrainian in the third place-race off.
‘‘Well what can I say?’’ McCulloch tweeted.
‘‘Bronze at my first Olympics. So proud.’’
It was a drama-filled event with race favourites Great Britain disqualified for an illegal changeover in their round-one heat while China, who set a world record in the opening round, were disqualified in the final for an illegal changeover which relegated them to the silver medal.
The St George Cycling Club member will compete in the women’s keirin heat from 1am tomorrow.
Meanwhile just hours later former Kirrawee High School student Eloise Wellings will race the 10,000 metre from 6.25am.
