Man held hostage during Hungry Jack's robbery

TWO men accused of holding a man hostage during an armed robbery last night at Hungry Jack’s, Sylvania, were expected to face court today, Miranda police said.

Police allege four men pointed a gun at a man, 39, who was waiting in the Port Hacking Road car park about 11pm for his son to finish work.

The group forced the man inside the restaurant, using a pistol and a machete to threaten him.

Once inside, one of the men held a gun to the victim’s head and demanded the store manager hand over money.

One offender left with the cash and others allegedly assaulted two staff members lying on the floor.

The group then fled in the victim’s red holden Commodore and police were alerted.

Miranda police arrived and began an investigation.

About an hour later police were called to an armed robbery at a Leichhardt hotel.

It is alleged three offenders threatened patrons and staff with a hatchet, forcing them to hand over cash.

Police were called and arrested two men, aged 26 and 18, at the scene.

They were taken to Leichhardt police station and charged with seven offences including aggravated robbery with an offensive weapon.

Both were refused bail to appear in Newtown Local Court today.

Investigations into both alleged robberies are continuing and detectives are attempting to identify the other two men involved.

Anyone with information should contact Miranda police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
