It's a Diamond night

NEIL Diamond fans may find it hard to believe, but this year is the 40th anniversary of that famous concert at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles which was released to the world as the album, Hot August Night.

In celebration of that concert and that best-selling album, Australia's Peter Byrne is recreating Diamond's triumph in a tour that brings him to Cronulla Sharks on August 24, when he will be appearing with the Sydney International Orchestra.

On stage he will be featuring classic songs such as Crunchy Granola Suite, Cherry Cherry, Sweet Caroline and I Am, I Said.

Byrne's ability to recreate the singer has been praised by Neil Diamond himself, while one critic noted, "The day I see a better Diamond will be the day the man himself appears on stage."

Byrne's own career has seen him win many awards from the entertainment industry, dating back over a decade.

His first Hot August Night tribute concert was for the album's 25th anniversary when, appearing with a 40-piece orchestra, he received a standing ovation from the 4000 audience members at the Sydney Convention Centre.

The Hot August Night show has been performed every August since that first night.
