ILLAWARRA Suburbs Lawn Tennis Association will hold a reunion of past and present players, officials and friends at 2pm on Sunday, November 23, at Club Kirrawee, 101 Oak Road, Kirrawee.
They will launch The First One Hundred Years by Frank Holden and Chris Maron.
This 196-page book highlights the association's illustrious history, the many players who have graced its courts and more than 100 photographs of players of all eras.
These players include Australian tennis great Ken Rosewall, who will be on hand to launch the book and autograph copies.
Rosewell, who went to Kogarah High School, features on the cover of the book and is one of six Illawarra players who have represented Australia in Davis Cup.
The other players were Jim Willard, John Bromwich, Ray Ruffles, Dick Crealy and Todd Woodbridge.
Women are also well represented. Players of note include Beryl Penrose Collier, Sandra Walsham Reid, Karen Krantzke and Lisa O'Neill.
Illawarra has a current world champion with Leanne Swaysland, who is ranked No.1 in the world by the ITF in the over-50s women's doubles.
She still competes in the Illawarra competitions.
Todd Woodbridge will present the inaugural Spirit of Illawarra Medal, which will go to someone who has contributed greatly to the success of the association and has shown exceptional qualities in areas not limited to tennis.
Event tickets are $5 and books are $25 each; bookings and tickets: Rae Middleton 9531 0989 or Rosanna Avenia 9522 6253.
