Its been slowly building and today the gods delivered, with a new 3-4ft south swell wrapping into Bate Bay and extinguishing itself on foreign sand. It’s not being totally wasted with the Alley bank still ticking over and a couple of lefts forming up the beach.
Swellnet says this will hang around into Friday morning before the inevitable 2ft weekend. Winds will be variable blowing from all points of the compass starting with some easterlies today pushing a few more bluebottles into the lineup-lucky us.
I took todays pics at the Alley where there were plenty of surfers to choose from-the sets were breaking wide but there were some nice south ones off the back of Henderson reef. I also saw a few sneaky ones at Elouera and Griggsys van was parked at Wanda, where it was 4ft at least.
If you miss the demise of FUEL TV, my surf TV premiers this Sunday on ONE hosted by Joel Hurrey of Domestic Blitz fame and leading Australian female pro-junior surfer Ellie-Jean Coffey, the 12-part series will showcase the best surfing footage and profiles from Australia and around the globe.
Speaking of current content, trademark Hawaiian winter surf is forecast to arrive on cue this Wednesday for an immediate, high-energy start to the REEF Hawaiian Pro at Haleiwa's Ali'i Beach - the first stage of the 32nd annual Vans Triple Crown of Surfing on Oahu's North Shore.
Surfline, official forecaster for the series, is calling for powerful surf in the order of 15 to 20-foot faces and light winds - as good as Haleiwa gets. More than that, there is a high likelihood that the event could have an unprecedented run of four consecutive days of big waves that would see a champion crowned as early as Saturday.
Reigning three-time ASP World Champion Mick Fanning (AUS) will lead the 128-man field of the REEF Hawaiian Pro and sees the event as an important opportunity to maintain form ahead of his world title showdown at Pipeline in December.

The Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) International is pleased to announce a restructure and rebranding action for the Qualifying Series (QS) that will take effect in 2015. The action is intended to simplify the Qualifying Series from a consumer, media, marketing and athlete standpoint, ensuring the continuation of the world’s best surfers advancing through to the elite Championship Tour where they will contest for the world title.
There are five levels centered around points-1 star; becomes QS1000 and it goes up to QS10000 which is the old 6star prime. In addition to the above transition, enhanced emphasis will placed around the seven regional tours in Africa, Australia, Europe, Hawaii, Japan, North America and South America with preferred seeding into all QS events being awarded to regional champions.
In 2015, the ASP will become the World Surf League (WSL), overseeing the Men’s Championship Tour, Women’s Championship Tour, Big Wave Tour, Qualifying Series, World Junior Championships and World Longboard Championships.
