GEORGES River Sailing Club has four crews headed to Western Australia next January for the World Tasar Championships.
The south-west town of Busselton, 120 kilometres from Perth, is venue for the big event from January 2-9.
The club, with four two-member crews qualified for the championships.
The crews are, Gary and Robyn Ratcliffe, of Peakhurst, Bruce and Sharon Litchfield, Como, Cameron and Eva Shaw, Lugarno, Bruce Hilleard, Engadine, and Jenny Sorensen, Kogarah.
Competitors from Australia, Japan, Canada, US, Britain and New Zealand will be competing.
Georges River Sailing Club public relations officer Jenny Sorensen said it's an exciting time.
"We are proud to have four crews at the world championships," Sorensen said.
"It's terrific for the sport and our club and we are going to give it our very best against top competition."
Sorensen, who will sail in the event, said they expect elite-level competition.
She said their four Tasar boats will transported by rail to Western Australia.
