WESTFIELD Hurstville has confirmed Toys'R'Us will leave the centre early next year to become the second major store to pull up stumps after the Christmas rush.
A few weeks ago, Scentre Group, Westfield's owners, issued a statement saying that Myer would not be renewing its lease at Westfield Hurstville and would not be trading after January 24.
A Scentre Group spokeswoman said this was part of a usual process affecting all shopping centres.
"As part of the evolution of the retail offer at Westfield Hurstville it has been agreed that Toys'R'Us will exit on expiry of their lease in the first quarter of 2015," the spokeswoman said.
She would not say who would replace the toy shop nor confirm that Big W and Woolies would replace Myer.
"We are finalising plans to be able to announce new retailers for Westfield Hurstville in the near future," she said.
"In 2014 Westfield Hurstville introduced a range of new retailers including Forever New, Witchery, Bardot Junior, Queenspark, Top Juice and Soul Origin."
She said the centre was 98 per cent leased.
A Toys'R' Us spokesman said that with "Westfield's plans to reconfigure the retail space there wasn't the opportunity for us to renew the lease in the current format".
"At this point, we are yet to identify a suitable alternative; however, we will continue to assess the options, giving consideration to any space that is aligned to our retail model and strategies," he said.
"The anticipated closure date will be early January, 2015.
"All store team members have been advised of the upcoming closure and are being provided with one-on-one support.
"It goes without saying that we will be working closely with the store team over the coming months to help support them with other opportunities at stores within the store support centre team or with other employment."
