THE Australian Institute of Health and Welfare states that brain cancer kills more children and people under 40 than any other cancer.
This is a fact Cronulla resident and community spokesman Glenn McDonald knows all too well.
In 1997 Mr Mcdonald was diagnosed with brain cancer and was given two years to live.
Some 17 years on he is still fighting the fight against this indiscriminate disease and together with the Cure Brain Cancer Foundation is encouraging Sutherland Shire to get to their feet and join the fight.
On Sunday, November 30, the Esplanade at Cronulla will be the venue for the inaugural Walk4BrainCancer to raise funds for research into brain cancer.
The family fun day is organised by the Cure Brain Cancer Foundation, founded by neurosurgeon Charlie Teo, who will be walking on Sunday.
Cure for Brain Cancer chief executive Cath Stace expects other high-profile walkers, including Cronulla Sharks players, to support the walk..
Walk4BrainCancer is a national movement, but this is the first time a walk has been staged in the Sutherland Shire.
Mr McDonald said it's important to get more awareness in the area.
"There are a lot of good people down here and I'm confident the shire will outperform itself," Mr McDonald said.
Registered walkers who raise more than $200 enter a draw to win a trip to New Zealand. Details: cronbrainwalk
