TWELVE months have elapsed since the start of roadworks to speed up traffic at Taren Point — and there is still no completion date.
"Why has it taken so long?" a frustrated resident asked in an email to the Leader.
"What appears to have been a simple reconstruction has dragged on for months, causing risks to drivers at the intersection of Taren Point Road and Holt Road, near Flower Power.
"The intersection is messy, with fencing and tape on the median strips and footpath.
"It is dangerous because of its incompleteness and the way the barriers have been placed."
A spokesman for Roads and Maritime Services said work resumed at the intersection this month following a delay caused by electrical problems.
He said electrical facilities had been redesigned.
"The main power cable is in the centre of a new turning lane and the next stage of work could not start until the cabling had been transferred," the spokesman said.
THE PROGRESS SO FAR
Stage one of the $2.5million ‘‘pinch point’’ project on Taren Point Road started in July, 2013 and was completed in November that year. It involved an extension of turning lanes at the Caringbah end.
Stage two started in November 2013 and involved the construction of new turning lanes and the extension of others at the Captain Cook Bridge end.
