A MAJOR revamp at Narwee station announced last week by Transport Minister Gladys Berejiklian and Oatley MP Mark Coure will boost safety and accessibility, the MPs said.
Ms Berejiklian said work was about to start to determine which areas of the station could be improved to make catching the train easier, particularly for seniors, people with a disability and parents with prams.
Mr Coure said the work could include a family-accessible toilet, ramps, lift access, improved customer information and direction signs, better stairs and upgrades to lighting and security camera systgems.
"I have worked nonstop to get the green light for this project and I am so happy to be able to commit this important upgrade for Narwee residents," he said.
"I went to the election in 2011 promising an upgrade for Narwee and now we are under way."
The MPs said the work is part of the government's Transport Access Program which delivers accessible, modern and integrated transport infrastructure where it is needed most and encourages more people to use public transport.
Mr Coure said the planned improvements were in addition to the transport interchange upgrade completed in September 2011.
"Following the interchange upgrade at Narwee station customers are already benefiting from better bus stops, a kiss-and-ride zone and taxi zone with shelters on Penshurst Road South, new bicycle facilities and improvements to footpaths through the pedestrian subway," Mr Coure said.
Ms Berejiklian said the NSW government had also delivered more than 10,500 extra weekly public transport services, airconditioning to all trains, and Opal electronic ticketing.
Is the state government doing a good job?
