A shutdown of the City Circle for maintenance work this weekend will have flow-on effects across the Sydney rail network.
‘‘A huge amount of work will be completed this weekend, including re-railing, drainage works and signal maintenance,’’ Sydney Trains director operations Tony Eid said.
“There will be plenty of extra public transport provided for customers attending events such as the Spring Racing Carnival at Randwick Racecourse or the One Day International at the SCG, but customers should allow extra travel time during this period.’’
Buses will replace trains on the City Circle, the T2 Airport Line between Sydenham and Central and the T2 Inner West Line between Ashfield and Central.
Service disruptions will also occur on the northern, western and Bankstown lines.
T4 Eastern Suburbs and Illawarra Line trains will make extra stops at St Peters and Erskineville.

Is this a good weekend for a big rail shutdown?
