WOLLI Creek residents want more action on rubbish which they say is clogging up local waterways.
Michael Mohan regularly visits the section of Wolli Creek near Bexley Road and said thousands of pieces of rubbish had floated down the creek in recent years.
However, he said the problem had become much worse in the past two years.
"You've got bottles and plastic bags that are catching on the banks," he said.
He is not happy with the level of action in maintaining the creek and its banks, and wants the council to consider mesh nets or storm water filters which can trap the debris.
"It's not enough to be reactionary, we have to be active," he said.
"It's not enough for two people clean it periodically.
"There just doesn't seem to be a solid plan."
A Rockdale Council spokesman said crews cleaned the creek once a month and after severe storms.
He said mesh nets would not work because water would pass over the nets during storms.
"Judging from the height of the accumulated debris in the tree branches it is evident these devices will not prevent this type of debris being trapped within mesh or booms at the normal flow height," he said.
"Rockdale Council continues bush regeneration work in this area that includes the clearing of the drainage outlets and the removal of objects and associated rubbish from around the creek."
Does Rockdale Council need to do more for the region's waterways?
