LUCY Cicco of Caringbah has spent the past 15 years working as a Volunteer in Policing (VIP) and has no plans to stop.
She was one of five volunteers recognised for their service during an event at Cronulla on Tuesday, November 18.
Brian Hall, Jan McGowan, Margaret Eder and Michelle Bennett also received a certificate marking 10 years' service.
The VIPs support police by liaising with the community on police programs, which allows officers to focus on their core duties.
Mrs Cicco spotted an ad for the program in the Leader and hasn't looked back.
"I'd just finished a job and thought 'why not?'," she said.
She has worked with Miranda police to raise community awareness of police programs, supported victims of crime and helped at social functions.
"I've just found it very enjoyable," she said.
"Every day is different and there's a lot of flexibility."
While every week has brought something new, the biggest highlight for her was meeting Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione.
Her work has twice earned her a nomination for NSW Rotary Volunteer of the Year in the Rotary Police Officer of the Year Awards.
While modest about her achievements, she said the nomination was an honour.
"I was pretty chuffed," she said.
"I'm just out there so maybe that's something that has stuck out."
