AUSTRALIAN legend Ken Rosewall was the ace attraction at Illawarra Suburbs Lawn Tennis Association's reunion of past and present players on Sunday at Club Kirrawee.
Kogarah-born Ken Rosewall, who recently turned 80, was one of many guests invited for the book launch detailing the association's history.
The First One Hundred Years by Frank Holden and Chris Maron is is 196 pages long.
It covers the association's history, the many players who have graced the courts and includes more than 100 photographs of players from all eras.
A photo of Rosewall is on the front cover.
There were 300 people at the function.
Rosewall spent all day signing books and chatted with many of the guests and gave of his time freely.
Rosewall went to Kogarah High School and lived in St George for many years.
As a youngster, Rosewall practised at the Hayburn Avenue courts at Rockdale.
"His father Bob owned three of those courts," Maron said.
He said Rosewall was passionate about his tennis days in the Illawarra Suburbs Lawn Tennis Association.
"I got to interview Ken about the book," Maron said.
Rosewall's childhood venue where he honed his tennis craft was the Wyanga Club at South Hurstville.
Maron said the address of those courts was No. 4 The Esplanade, South Hurstville.
"Ken played there with his dad Bob on Saturday afternoons," Maron said.
