The message was strong, simple and clear: respect each other.
Menai High School is one of many schools in Sutherland Shire that have marked White Ribbon Day with a symbolic gesture that involved the whole community.
Students ‘‘said no’’ today to violence against women.
They wrapped the front of the school in a 40-metre banner, decorated with white ribbons, and invited passersby to sign the banner as an oath to the cause.
White Ribbon Day is an annual campaign that helps change the attitudes and behaviours that lead to, and perpetuate, men’s violence against women by engaging boys and men to lead social change.
Menai High has taken part in the event for the past two years, with senior students leading the support.
Teachers have incorporated a unit on positive relationships into the school’s physical education syllabus.
