BASSOONIST Timothy Murray (pictured) of Beverly Hills was selected to participate in the prestigious Sydney Symphony Orchestra Fellowship program for 2014.
Having completed his year in the fellowship, the 22-year-old will perform his final concert as a Fellow in the Sydney Opera House on Saturday, November 29.
It has been an eventful year for Murray.
He has spent the year playing with the professional musicians of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, which included touring with them to China for 2½ weeks — a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
"Working in the orchestra has been great to learn the trade from the musicians you just wouldn't have access to in a student environment," Murray said.
"Ensemble playing has been a big thing; we have learnt how to play in an orchestra and listen to the other musicians at a professional standard."
Along with the other Fellows, Murray has performed in a maximum security prison, taken part in masterclasses with international soloists and performed chamber concerts in NSW.
The 2014 Fellows' final concert — Tales of the Unexpected — will be from 7.30pm on Saturday, November 29, at the Utzon Room, Sydney Opera House.
The Fellows will play Dukas - The Sorcerer's Apprentice; Stravinsky - The Soldier's Tale Suite; and Mussorgsky - Pictures at an Exhibition.
Tickets: $20-$30; 8215 4600.
