SPONSORS, business people, media and Hurstville councillors gathered on Monday to launch the council's 2015 Lunar New Year program.
The Year of the Sheep will be welcomed formally with a street festival on February 14.
Hurstville mayor Con Hindi promised something for everyone in the packed program of events that will "showcase the diverse way in which Asian cultures celebrate this important time of year".
"Council has proudly celebrated Lunar New Year for 12 years, and it has wide appeal with both local residents and visitors from all over Sydney," Cr Hindi said.
"The day will include non-stop entertainment, a colourful street parade, food and market stalls, traditional lion and dragon dances and live entertainment provided by local community groups, and much more."
Other highlights include a lucky draw prize for festival-goers to enter on the day and which could win them a return airfare for one adult to Beijing or Shanghai; a Mythical Dragons and Majestic Lions exhibition at the gallery; fruit carving display with celebrity chef Charlie Yan; a youth movie screening of One Piece Adventures in Alabaster, and the popular Kids' Corner at Palm Court car park, where children can pat barnyard animals, enjoy amusement rides, have their face painted, play on a jumping castle and participate in sand art workshops.
"Also this year, council will be encouraging all visitors to capture the culture, spirit and excitement of the 2015 Lunar New Year Street Festival by sharing their photos via Instagram," Cr Hindi said.
