FOR the past two years or so, Hurstville Chamber of Commerce representatives have taken monthly walks with Hurstville Council staff and councillors.
The idea behind the walk, which started since the formation of the Town Centre Beautification Committee, was for chamber representatives to point out to the council staff what needed to be done to make the CBD more attractive for businesses and shoppers.
The council has finally taken notice, with mayor Con Hindi announcing a major overhaul of Forest Road.
Cr Hindi said the main street needed a new look to attract shoppers, boost business, create outdoor dining areas and encourage communal pride. He proposed the council immediately review the necessary work, including new paving, lighting, garbage bins, street furniture and landscaping between Queens Road and the Palm Court car park.
The council's general manager is expected to bring a report to the council early next year, with concept drawings and proposed costs.
Cr Hindi said there was enough money in the Town Centre Improvement Fund for the work.
"The revitalisation of Forest Road will see a great improvement for local businesses and people who frequent the shopping precinct and significantly improve the streetscape appearance of Hurstville's vibrant civic centre," he said.
Any ideas? What would you like to see happen?
