WORK will begin soon on six new road projects in Sutherland Shire worth a total of $1.5 million.
Sutherland Shire Council is undertaking the works during the next three months in Kangaroo Point, Miranda, Gymea Bay and Sylvania.
They include new kerb and guttering, upgrades to stormwater drainage, new road pavement, footpaths and street tree planting.
Mayor Kent Johns said the projects would improve the safety of local roads.
Work on the Princes Highway access road in Sylvania is scheduled to begin in mid-January 2015, with $726,000 to be spent on kerb and guttering, footpath access, parking bays and native tree planting.
A total of $229,000 will be spent in Sylva Street, Miranda, to improve accessibility and provide a turning bay for school pick-ups.
In Gymea, $97,800 will be spent on road pavement, a footpath and kerb and guttering, and $282,100 in Joffre Street for road and footpath reconstruction, new turn and driveway reconstruction and tree planting.
Work on Allan Street, Kangaroo Point, has already started with $245,000 to be spent on new kerb and guttering and landscaping.
Work on the other projects will start in early 2015.
