CSG opposition
A meeting of combined Stop Coal Seam Gas groups was held last Sunday at Mortdale RSLClub.
The purpose was to raise awareness in the community of the many risks of coal seam gas mining in our water catchment areas.
The drinking water catchment provides the water for 4 million people in Sydney and surrounds.
The meeting, that had standing room only, reflected the interest and concern about this industry. The audience, mainly from the local community, made ongoing commitments by signing contact lists and giving generous donations.
A most productive, informative and successful meeting concluded with a vigorous question-and-answer session and a unanimous motion: ‘‘This meeting resolved to call on the NSW government to fulfil its promise and ban CSG mining in NSW drinking water catchments permanently and to implement a precautionary approach across NSW.’’
It was heartening to see so many people turning up to a public meeting on a Sunday and showing their concern.
