HURSTVILLE Council's planting day at Lime Kiln Bay Wetlands brought out some green thumbs from Oatley West Public School.
The pupils were keen to learn more about the environment at the school engagement event, which was attended by Georges River Environmental Education Centre representatives.
The day was part of recent upgrade and maintenance works undertaken by the council at the wetland. The work involved the improvement of water quality by increasing water circulation through the addition of a new connection between ponds and revegetation of the edges of the wetland to aid bank stabilisation.
About 3000 new aquatic and terrestrial plants were planted.
The maintenance and improvement works were funded by the council, with additional support from the Greater Sydney Local Land Service, which provided $50,000.
