Christmas light displays seem to grow bigger and better every year. Social media is already abuzz about where the top spots are and the Leader would like to add reader contributions to our photo gallery.
See new photos of lights (in the gallery above) at Sans Souci and Burraneer Bay Road.
Number 220 Burraneer Bay Road was a sparkling standout, with Santa’s sleigh, Christmas trees and wreaths draped on the house and across the lawn.
Griffith Street at Sans Souci is another hit, with Santa’s sleigh, kangaroos in Santa hats and shooting stars from the roof.
Several families who join the traditional display each year are supporting Australian charities in 2015.
George Lagoudakis of 58 Mimosa Street Bexley has his usual display and is hoping to raise money for sick children at Westmead and Randwick children hospitals.
Readers from Engadine and Kirrawee have also sent photos of their light displays and we included a couple from Sydney city in case readers are heading in during the holidays. The Lego tree in Pitt Street Mall took half a million Lego bricks, five people and 1200 hours to build and is lit at night.
Narwee Baptist Church has joined in the competitive Christmas spirit on a grand scale.
A team of volunteers worked for three days to cover the church in lights and a Nativity scene, and at least 350 people turned up to watch the first lights show last Sunday (November30).
The church’s senior pastor, Angelo Gratsounas, said it brought some Christmas cheer and hope to people — and put a smile on their faces.
The display will be turned on each night at 8pm until 11pm up to Christmas and visitors will be welcomed with free refreshments and candy canes every Friday and Saturday night throughout December.
There will be live music from 8pm on December6, 12, and 19.
On Sunday, December14, the church will have its annual Christmas Fair (6pm) and Community Carols (8pm) at Peakhurst Public School, featuring free jumping castles, face-painting and pony rides.
Christmas services will be at 7pm on Christmas Eve and 9am on Christmas Day, with the Christmas Day service broadcast live on 90.1 NBCFM. The church is at the corner of Baumans Road and Gardinia Street, Peakhurst.
