Protect flying foxes
The Leader (December 4) posed a question whether the state government should assist with the removal of the flying fox camp at Kareela.
I think the local, state and federal governments should use the taxes I pay to safeguard and provide additional habitat for native species, rather than to destroy what habitat is left.
The flying foxes are native animals which need a place to live. It is unfortunate that people have located themselves within flying fox habitat.
The flying foxes have nowhere else to go once all their home is destroyed by people and many will certainly die due to starvation and exhaustion.
The alternative is a wonderful opportunity to provide education to children and the community; that we are responsible stewards of the world that we also live in and we take good care of our native animals and plants.
