LOFTUS, Engadine, Heathcote and Waterfall residents got an extra-bad deal in last year's train timetable shake-up, says Opposition Leader John Robertson.
They lost several morning and evening peak services, and had to allow extra time to get to the Kogarah medical and education hub.
Labor candidate for Heathcote Maryanne Stuart said residents were now "reeling".
"Fewer trains are running on time compared with last year, and trains are at almost 140 per cent capacity in peak times," she said.
Mr Robertson pointed to the recent NSW Auditor-General's report, which revealed that complaints about train timetables had jumped 949 per cent jump after the changes.
But Transport Minister Gladys Berejiklian said "the majority" of train travellers liked the new timetable.
"With rail patronage of 314 million [journeys each year] the number of complaints about the timetable represents 0.002 per cent of passengers," she said.
Ms Berejiklian has rejected criticism of the Illawarra Line changes, saying they provide an extra 149 weekly services, improve journey times, and even out passenger loads, ensuring more passengers get a seat.
