SUTHERLAND first grade cricket team has moved to equal fourth on the premiership table after thrashing Parramatta on Saturday at Glenn McGrath Oval, Caringbah.
After declaring at their first inning total of 9-346 made on the opening day, Sutherland bowled out the visitors for 212 for an emphatic 134-run victory.
Wicketkeeper Daniel Rixon topscored with 95 and English batsman Jack Leaning made 82.
Opener Chris Williams was rock solid, making 52, Daniel Fallins reached 37 and Mitch Brown 20.
The Sutherland bowling attack was in command, with Daniel Fallins taking 3-59, Jamie Brown 2-15, and Leaning 2-55.
Brown continued his good form for the club’s competition leading Poidevin-Gray under-21s team on Sunday against North Sydney.
The left-hander made 109 in the team’s total of 6-263 and they dismissed North Sydney for 171.
Brown has had scores of 83, 49, 73, 56 not out and 109 in the Poidevin-Gray this season.
He is averaging 92.50.
Jonathan Rose made 62 n.o, Jack Leaning, 38, and Daniel Fallins 22. Fallins took 4-43 with the ball, Leaning, 2-21 and Tom Pinson 2-22.
Sutherland lead the Poidevin-Gray Shield on 33 points.
The club is second in the
club championship race on 462 points.
St George
St George first grade cricket remain on 12 points after losing to Randwick Petersham on Saturday at Petersham Oval.
The game was played on another wicket after the opening day’s play was abandoned.
Randwick Petersham made 9-284 and St George were dismissed for 242. Batsman Simon Chu made 109, hitting 20 boundaries in the team innings.
St George host Sutherland on Saturday in the local derby at Hurstville Oval; play will begin at 10am.
