ROOKIE Brad Giffen of Illawong is humming along nicely in motor sport.
The 22-year-old is now a strong contender in the senior category of the Leader Sportstar Awards.
Giffen has made a smooth transition from NSW champion go-karter to racing Legend cars.
The Legend cars are a built on a five-eighth sized scale and the cars are a fibreglass body resembling the modifieds driven in US in the 1930s and 1940s.
In just his first year racing the Legend cars, he competes in the pro division.
So far, Giffen has completed three rounds at Valvoline Raceway Parramatta, winning the first two feature races.
And he was only denied an historic hat-trick after winning both heats in the third round but a broken broken ignition wire preventing him from starting in the feature race.
Giffen leads the points series. This year's winner will earn a trip to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to race.
"I would love to race in the US," Giffen told the Leader.
He and his dad Glen work countless hours on the car to ensure its ready for racing.
The pair hook up the car on a trailer and race at country venues all over NSW.
