A man allegedly involved in a fatal stabbing is holding police at bay in a siege at a house in Melbourne's west.
Victoria Police acting Senior Sergeant Sharon Darcy said a man and a woman were refusing to come out of a house on Blackshaws Road in Altona North.
Homicide and special operations police received a tip off at about 2am alerting them that a man wanted in relation to the stabbing could be found at a house in Blackshaws Road.
Police went to the house about 2am after receiving intelligence the wanted man may be there, acting Senior Sergeant Darcy said.
The man has been at large since the stabbing incident on Sunday.
Acting Senior Sergeant Darcy said police were continuing to communicate with the couple.
It was not believed the couple was armed.
Police are keeping residents at bay and traffic is being diverted at Angus Street. Am ambulance is on stand by nearby.
A man aged in his 20s died after being stabbed about 3pm in the same road on Sunday.
Police were told two men were seen fighting at the intersection of Grieve Parade and Blackshaws Road before the death.
Passers-by performed CPR on the injured man before paramedics arrived but he died at the scene.
A man fled the scene on Sunday and it is believed a woman was with him.
An abandoned tray truck was found near the scene.
Police are expected to hold a press conference at 9am.
Detective Sergeant Nathan Favre said a woman present at the time of the incident was helping police with their inquiries.
