ROCKDALE Council is seeking assurances from the state government that land will not be acquired by compulsory means as part of the Cooks Cove development.
At this month's council meeting councillors resolved to write to the Premier as well as seek support from the member for Rockdale, John Flowers.
The site has a long history after having failed to progress after 13 years.
In September the state government rejected an unsolicited proposal from Kogarah Golf Club that included the relocation and construction of a new St George Soccer Stadium and the replacement of the previous trade and technology zone with a mixed use precinct including about 5000 residential apartments.
UrbanGrowth NSW is now responsible for development of the site after the Cooks Cove Development Corporation was dissolved in August 2013.
In a mayoral minute mayor Shane O'Brien said they would continue to work towards a suitable development for the site.
"Cooks Cove cannot proceed, except in partnership with all stakeholders including the state government," he said.
"I recommend that we should welcome the opportunity to work on a new planning pathway for Cooks Cove.
"I also recommend that we should seek an assurance from the government that the rights of individual landowners will continue to be respected and that no land will be acquired by compulsory means."
Mr Flowers and UrbanGrowth NSW did not respond to requests for comment.
