More than 40 community projects in Sutherland Shire will benefit from the state government's 2014 Community Building Partnerships program.
Grants totalling $1.2 million were announced by MPs Mark Speakman (Cronulla), Lee Evans (Heathcote), Melanie Gibbons (Menai) and Barry Collier (Miranda).
Each electorate was allocated $300,000.
Projects range from replacing hall roofs and installing kitchens to providing facilities for the disabled and establishing a garden to pay respect to the Aboriginal community at Illawong.
Larger grants included:
CRONULLA
■Elouera Surf Life Saving Club, to upgrade clubhouse and for a new kiosk, $50,000.
■Cronulla-Sutherland District Rugby League Football Club, to convert a room into youth space, $45,000.
■Cronulla South Public School P&C, to upgrade outdoor play surface, $42,364.
■Endeavour Sports High School (Special Kids With A Disability), for covered walkway, covered outdoor learning area, $32,832.
HEATHCOTE
■Era Surf Life Saving Club, improvements including awning, solar power, $30,000.
■Engadine Preschool Kindergarten, outdoor learning environment, $30,000.
■Engadine Crusaders Football Club, club house extensions, $27,000.
■Engadine Bowling and Recreation Club, improved security lighting, $16,060.
MIRANDA
■Sutherland Shire Netball Association, resurfacing of four all-weather netball courts, $60,000.
■Gymea United Football Club, female players' amenities building, $45,000.
■Greek Orthodox Church Gymea, childcare and community hall, $30,000.
■Sylvania Heights Public School P&C, canteen refurbishment, $30,000.
MENAI
■Lucas Heights Community School, cricket nets for school and community, $44,400.
■Sutherland PCYC mini-bikes, earthworks to improve Lucas Heights track, $29,000.
