The comments of Cr Ron Bezic (Leader, December 9) are astounding to say the least.
How can such few lines contain so many misleading comments?
The Rockdale Liberals such as Cr Bezic did not pause the pool process — they did not turn up to meetings!
At no stage did they make public reference to their concerns about the cost of the pool project.
Second, the project was never going to cost "$36-$40 million" — that comment is rubbish.
The original project cost was set at $30 million.
Added to this, the sale of the Chapel Street property for $48 million would more than sufficiently fund any "sound and balanced" pool project.
Third, there is a chasm between conservatism and irrationality.
You don't stop a much-needed project, pretend that you were concerned about its cost, force a reduced number of available facilities at that new site and then do this so that you can be happy you have only spent $24 million.
Cr Bezic's comments fail to mention that because of the actions of the Rockdale Liberals the previous tender has expired. We need a new pool design based on the new $24 million project cap and it now seems that the $1 million dollars already spent by council on the process has been wasted.
If the Liberals are so obsessed with conservatism, how about they stop us wasting another million dollars by cutting their waffle, stalling and rampant negativity.
And if they are so committed to saving money, what are they saving the money for?
Is the Bexley Pool project not worthy?

Cheaper pool praised
It is good news that the proposed gold-plated, Dubai-version, redevelopment of Bexley Pool has been scaled back to something more affordable for ratepayers and government.
I hope that Rockdale Council scraps the gym facility from its plan and redefines in writing that the use of this facility will be shared fairly.
Can someone please tell Cr Barlow there are public and private swimming facilities for lessons and other specialised water activities within a 10-minute drive from Bexley Pool.
There is no reason why the council cannot build a quality facility and provide adequate services for $24 million to add to what already exists in the region.
It should be noted from council surveys that fewer than 1700 people out of the 106,712 population (ABS 2013) of Rockdale City cared what happened to Bexley Pool.
I think we should be thankful to those Rockdale councillors who wanted the money belt tightened.
