NEW picnic shelters and barbecues have been installed in Cook Park between Dolls Point and Kyeemagh in time for the holiday season.
Rockdale Council said they were among recently completed foreshore improvements that would benefit residents and visitors.
The new shelters and barbecues have been placed in Peter Depena Reserve, and at Ramsgate Beach and Kyeemagh.
As previously reported, 19 new hazard signs have been installed at pedestrian access points to the beach.
Designed by an external consultant, the signs are numbered to help in arranging meeting places and to guide emergency services to locations quickly.
They also advise on hazards and include regulatory information on prohibited items.
Timber bollards have been installed in Peter Depena Reserve and Cook Park to help stop entry by unauthorised vehicles.
The council has also responded to complaints about charcoal barbecues by installing several bins for used coals.
A spokesman said there had been ‘‘a noticeable reduction’’ in coal being dumped in general picnic areas since they were installed in October.
The council also promoted the ‘‘completion’’ of work on Dolls Point baths even though, as reported previously, they are still unusable for lengthy periods due to sand build-up.
MORE TO COME
Dolls Point wharf, which is close to being submerged in a sea of sand, is to be demolished.
The council said two sections had already been removed and the rest would follow next year.
‘‘A stormwater outlet pipe located on the southern side of Ramsgate Baths has also been removed,’’ a spokesman said.
The council said it engaged the services of the Soil Conservation Service, a commercial entity within the Department of Primary Industries, to help restore a degraded section of dunes at Sans Souci.
‘‘Work has also started on the reconstruction of the collapsed rock revetment along Sandringham Bay south of Lena Street,’’ he said.
‘‘Emergency repairs were made after recent beach erosion washed away a section of the embankment and major reconstruction work is due to start in January.’’
Do you think the changes will be a big improvement to the area?
