Sutherland’s class batsman and newly crowned Australian Test skipper, Steve Smith, has scored the sixth century of his 24 match career, today, at the Gabba in Brisbane.
The right-hander, playing in his first Test as captain, produced a dominant innings to reach his century with a spanking tenth boundary through the point region during the innings.
Smith, who normally bats at No. 5, promoted himself to the No. 4 position for the Gabba match.
Smith was appointed Test skipper on Monday before the start of the second match of the series against India on Wednesday.
With regular captain Michael Clarke out for three months after hamstring surgery, the national selectors opted to promote Smith ahead of vice-captain, Brad Haddin.
Smith made 162 not out and 52 not out in the Adelaide Test against India.
