JANE Dyson’s portrait of breast cancer patient Kylie Warry (above right) was her favourite photo of 2014. Not only did it show her subject’s ‘‘beauty, strength and courage’’, but it made the finals of 2014 Kennedy Awards.
‘‘She wanted to show people she was taking control of her future,’’ Dyson said.
Reaching the finals of the Channel 10 show So You Think You Can Dance Australia was reason enough to jump for joy and Dyson thought the shot showed the finalists’ excitement.
Dyson’s photo of the Caltex oil refinery at Kurnell reflected the ‘‘sense of sadness’’ over its closure after 59 years. ‘‘This photograph captures the mood and the structure well,’’ she said.
Dyson said it was a ‘‘novelty’’ to capture these young players at a muddy football game.
‘‘I had a lot of fun shooting this game and the boys seemed to enjoy it as well.’’
