Re the article "Tunnel plan pushed through" (Leader, December 16).
The proposed $17 million pedestrian tunnel under the railway line at Arncliffe is a scandalous waste of taxpayers' money.
For heaven's sake, it is only 20 metres from an existing walkway.
This plan is an example of political pork-barrelling at its worst. It is nothing but a cynical attempt to buy votes of a minority by the morally bankrupt Liberal party to save their lame duck local member John Flowers.
I think our taxpayers' money would be better spent on the new Bexley pool, a facility that would benefit the entire community.
It is interesting to note that the budget for this new walkway is a similar to the amount shaved from the Bexley Pool budget by their Liberal colleagues on Rockdale Council.
