REVELLERS will ring in the new year in a variety of ways in St George and Sutherland Shire.
At the Georges River Sailing Club, Sandringham, entertainment will be provided by a group who rarely wear frocks but are pretty happy about calling themselves The Frocks which they subtitle "the all-girl band that rocks".
Lead singer and manager Maria Temelkos said frocks were just too uncomfortable to wear when performing and the name and the band had come about as a result of a pow-wow among music-loving friends after a backyard party 13 years ago.
The Frocks have five members: front singers, bass player, guitarist and drummer.
The Frocks will perform in a variety of styles ranging from 1960s music and the Beatles to AC/DC and contemporary rock.
"We perform two to three times a week," Temelkos said.
Among other new year's activities in the shire, the sounds of a big band will reverberate at Sharkies, Cronulla.
Buble & the Legends of Swing Show will recreate the sounds of Michael Buble, Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald and Shirley Bassey.
The band comprises swing musicians, featuring Adem Ozbakan on vocals with the High Rollers Big Band.
Stage dancers will take the audience to the classic dance hall days when music was played to a full dance floor.
