WRITER-director Edward Lyons has been a man ‘‘on the edge’’ waiting for a date for his film’s Australian premiere — but now he can relax a little.
The good news is that his 11- minute film — A Man on the Edge — was selected for Flickerfest, one of 95 from 2300 entries.
Its showing on January 10 made it eligible to become one of 50 films to be shown at 50 venues from January to May.
The film, set at the Cape Solander cliffs, is about a man about to jump from a cliff, with one character based on the real ‘‘angel of The Gap’’, local resident Don Ritchie who persuaded people not to jump from this landfall.
‘‘In my film, a woman comes along and talks him down,’’ Lyons said.
The film stars Cheree Cassidy from television’s Underbelly and the ABC's The Time Of Our Lives, and Tom O’Sullivan, who was one of the voices in the Happy Feet film.
Child actor Liam Challenor of Caringbah also has a role.
Lyons filmed much of his fourth short film in Sutherland Shire.
He is finishing studying for his master’s degree in media arts and production at UTS.
Lyons’s next film — Drive By — is about the infamous drive-by shootings in Sydney.
Flickerfest will be held until January 18 at Bondi Pavilion.
