Sutherland Sharks FC are expected to do well in the 2015 Good Sports Challenge Cup this weekend at Circular Quay.
The Cup is part of The Big Issue Street Soccer Festival which began yesterday (Thursday) and continues until Tuesday.
The Sharks are one of 16 Sydney-based teams in the festival.
With a proud history stretching back to 1930, the club have been around for almost twice as long as their rugby league neighbours, Cronulla Sharks.
Sutherland Sharks FC has teams in the Football NSW NSW Premier League and youth leagues.
They are also a level three Good Sports club and one of the first Sutherland Shire clubs to become accredited.
Good Sports is an award-winning program which has grown into the biggest health initiative in Australian sport, with a network that covers every level of sport — from grassroots to elite.
The organisation tackles sports health problems such as alcohol, smoking, obesity and mental health.
Clubs move through the three program levels over three and a half years.
Trials and research have shown involvement has led to a 30 per cent decrease in risky drinking in comparison to non-Good Sports clubs, and an increased supply and purchase of healthy foods in Good Sports club canteens.
Clubs reap the rewards of having more players, spectators and sponsors, and a vastly improved environment for children and families.
