ROCKDALE councillor Bill Saravinovski will put a motion to the February 4 council meeting calling for a dangerous section of the beach at Dolls Point to be closed.
The section of beach from the Georges River Sailing Club to the jetty is where two girls were pulled from the water on January 7.
It is also the same spot where five-year-old Ayman Ksebe drowned more than a year ago.
Cr Saravinovski said he would seek an urgent on-site meeting with the state government to discuss dredging at the beach.
"As a parent to two young boys I'd never take my kids swimming down there; it's too dangerous," he said.
"If there's a dangerous road we would fix it, so this shouldn't be any different.
"I'm not interested in letter writing — something needs to be done there now."
Following Ayman Ksebe's death and lobbying by some residents, the council installed new signs along Lady Robinsons Beach last year, including two at Peter Depena Reserve, Dolls Point.
While residents have continued the push for more signs, others said they would not be effective unless people obeyed them, supervised their children more closely and ensured they wore buoyancy vests.
A council spokesman said they were still awaiting a decision from the RMS on possible dredging works.
‘‘The state government has not given any undertaking to do dredging works or to fund council to undertake dredging in and around the Dolls Point baths,’’ the spokesman said.
‘‘Their commitment to date is to contribute to the extension of the netted area at Dolls Point.’’
An RMS spokeswoman said a decision on the request was expected this week.
‘‘Roads and Maritime Services is considering a funding request from Rockdale Council for work to dredge the Dolls Point baths at Botany Bay, expected to be resolved this week,’’
she said.
‘‘RMS will work with the council and whole of government to develop a proposal for further remediation work for the broader area.
‘‘Significant consultation would be carried out as part of planning.’’
