A community forum on a proposed major revamp of social housing in NSW will be held at Hurstville tomorrow, January 21.
The meeting will be held at Club Central in Crofts Avenue, 2pm-4pm.
It is part of a state-wide community consultation process on a discussion paper, released by the state government last year.
Feedback is being sought up until February 20.
Proposals include making the system more flexible, moving away from a ‘‘housing-for-life’’ approach, placing more expectations on tenants and greater involvement by the non-government and private sectors.
Family and Community Services Minister Gabrielle Upton said the present system was ‘‘unfair and unsustainable’’.
“Since 2011, we have worked hard to make the social housing system fairer and better,” she said.
“We have made waiting lists transparent and cracked down on people rorting the system.
“Despite these improvements, the social housing system continues to face significant challenges.’’
