I wonder what founding Hurstville RSL members would think of the fight going on about redevelopment of the site?
These men were ex-army who fought valiantly for our nation during WWI. Their objective in forming Hurstville RSL Club was as a meeting and social place for ex-army, navy and airmen.
There was allowance for social members but the main idea was a club remembering the men who fought, lived and died for our nation’s freedom.
It seems from all the correspondence crossing my desk on this matter, the purpose for the club has been forgotten by one who would reap a profit and maybe, hopefully, give a little space for a social club. The club has suffered since the sub-branch closure, as has been seen with the eatery in Memorial Square.
Members would be better off with oversight from South Hurstville RSL.
