Hard-punching boxer George Kambosos jnr is on the rise, having won the Australian professional lightweight title in September.
The former Endeavour High student is preparing for an eight-round bout against Filipino fighter Rodynie Rafol on Saturday at All Phones Arena, Sydney Olympic Park.
Kambosos jnr's fight is the No.2 rated bout on the The Footy Show card to be televised on Nine's GEM channel.
"My fight is the one before SBW's and the one after Paul Gallen's," Kambosos jnr, of Sylvania, said.
It's not every day young amateur fighters get the chance to run shoulders with sporting royalty.
New Zealand rugby league and union international Sonny Bill Williams has been training at Rockdale PCYC under the guidance of Tony Mundine. The former Bulldogs and Roosters rugby league forward said he has enjoyed training at the Rockdale gym.
Williams sparred in the gym for his workout on Friday night.
"I will be doing some more sessions here this week before the fight," He said.
Williams will face veteran heavyweight veteran Chauncy Welliver.
Kambosos jnr said training with the man tagged SBW is humbling.
"'It is great for me to be part of the event with drawcards like Sonny Bill. He's a top athlete and a huge name across so many sports," Kambosos jnr said.
Other boxers on the card include Sydney City Roosters player Willis Meehan, son of heavyweight boxing champion Kali Meehan; professional boxer Bilal Akkawy, of Penhurst; and Cronulla Sharks captain Paul Gallen.
All bouts are approved by the state's Combat Sports Authority.
"For an event like this we'll have the eyes of the league crowd, the rugby crowd and the boxing crowd which is great. I'm looking forward to the extra exposure and to putting on a good show and coming away with a win," Kambosos jnr said.
Trained by Igor Gouloubev at Rockdale PCYC gym, Kambosos said his preparation during the hot summer has been an advantage.
