GIRL Guide leader Yvonne Holcroft of Banksia has been named the 2015 Rockdale City Citizen of the Year.
"I was completely shocked. I felt very humble that someone would think that highly of me," she said.
Mrs Holcroft has been with the Girl Guides for 40 years and has inspired many young women.
"It's been wonderful watching the kids as they come into their potential," she said.
"I've had parents come back to me and say how much their kids have changed and how they bring that into their personal lives."
A career highlight has been the friendships she's formed over the years.
Also honoured in the awards was Sarah Mandile as Young Citizen of the Year.
Ms Mandile, 18, who was unable to attend the awards, made her debut in the Australian Women's Premier League in 2014 and has been a role model to her teammates as well as to the young women she mentors.
Olympic snowboarder Stephanie Magiros, 23, was named Sportsperson of the Year.
Ms Magiros competed in the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics in Russia in the snowboard halfpipe event.
She also claimed a bronze medal at the Australian Gymnastics Championships in her pet event, the vault.
"I knew the Olympics were my end goal and that I'd given everything I had to be there," she said.
"When I got the letter saying I'd won it was an amazing feeling that the place where I grew up had recognised my achievements."
