TIM Cahill, who went to Bexley North Primary and Kingsgrove North High schools, is one win away from a achieving a Socceroos triumph that could be the crowning glory of his career.
Cahill, 35, and the Socceroos will play South Korea on Saturday night at ANZ Stadium in the AFC Asian Cup final.
Australia lost the 2011 AFC Asian Cup final 1-0 against Japan in Qatar.
The Socceroos defeated UAE 2-0 in Tuesday night's semi- final in Newcastle to reach Saturday's big game.
Cahill tweeted after the game: "One more to go. @afcasiancup, place in the final is locked in."
He also had time to think of others and congratulated Australian Test star Steve Smith on his Allan Border Medal win on social media.
"Congratulations to Steve Smith getting the Allan Border Medal and also to @davidwarner31 for all his big performances. Should be 2 medals."
After the match, Cahill told Fairfax Media he was not bothered about the stature of Australia's final opponents.
"I'm not going to focus on [South] Korea, I've never focused on any team we've played. I'm going to focus on us," he said.
Match kick-off will be at 8pm.
