LOFTUS rural firefighters can now respond to requests for help through a click of the button with the help of a new response system.
The brigade is the first in the area to trial the new smartphone app.
Loftus Rural Fire Service captain Michael Harvey said the new system has revolutionised the way they work.
"Before we really had no system," he said.
"We got a call for help and we would all just go and wait at the station to see whether we had enough volunteers for two crews.
"With the new system we have a secure web page at the station that everyone can access [which] shows who's available.
"All our members have apps on their phone so if a call comes through they can just click a button to let us know they're on their way.
"It allows us to decide what we're going to do even before everyone gets to the station."
The firefighters trialled the system for the past year after first seeing how it worked during last year's South Australian bushfires.
"We really just want to showcase the possibilities and how beneficial it can be," he said.
