New figures show 93.7 per cent of peak period services last year on the T4 Illawarra rail line met the arrival target within five minutes of the timetable.
The T2 Airport line recorded 94.5 per cent and the T2 South line to Campbelltown recorded 93.3 per cent.
Sydney Trains’s target is for at least 92 per cent of peak services to arrive on time (within five minutes of the timetable).
Transport Minister Gladys Berejiklian said the average on-time running figure for the network was 94.7 per cent.
Ms Berejiklian said 2014 was the first full calendar year of a ‘‘new and tougher way of measuring the reliability of services which gives customers a clearer picture of their performance’’.
“I’m pleased to see the levels of services are above the target and Sydney Trains customers are experiencing a higher standard of service,” she said.
“Labor left transport in a complete mess.
‘‘The result today shows how reliable our trains can be when a hardworking government takes the time to invest in public transport.
“Of course, there is always more work to do to ensure customers receive a world-class transport service.
“Our recent customer service survey showed that people are telling us how much they are enjoying using clean, modern, safe and reliable trains.
‘‘Opal is already making a huge difference to the way customers use public transport in Sydney.”
