From humble beginnings in Palm Court in 2002, the Lunar New Year celebration at Hurstville has grown into a huge event.
Hurstville mayor Con Hindi said the celebration on Saturday was the biggest yet, attracting close to 50,000 people.
Forest Road, including the bus exchange, was chock-a-block with stalls, entertainment stages and people including Australian and Chinese dignitaries.
‘‘The best part for me was meeting people from all over Sydney,’’ Cr Hindi said.
‘‘Australians from all backgrounds came to celebrate; this is the largest festival of its type outside the CBD.’’
